Coach Jamal Benson, based in Houston, Texas, is a cornerstone of the local boxing community. With over 15 years of experience, he’s helped mold young fighters into disciplined athletes, emphasizing a balance between technique and mental strength.
“Boxing isn’t just about throwing punches,” says Benson. “It’s about strategy, endurance, and heart.”
Coach Benson’s training sessions are renowned for their intensity, combining high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with hours of sparring and technical drills. He pushes his fighters to focus on the basics, particularly footwork and jabs.
One of his protégés, 18-year-old Marcus Taylor, credits Benson for his rise to the top of the regional junior circuit. “Coach never lets me give up. He taught me to fight smarter, not harder,” says Marcus.
Beyond the gym, Benson is an advocate for youth development. He often hosts free workshops, teaching self-defense and discipline to at-risk youth. “Boxing saved my life,” Benson reflects. “Now, I’m paying it forward.”
